Scott Monroe, an Indiana native, is the sixth generation in his family to be involved in vegetable production and spent most of his youth working in his family’s watermelon fields. He attended both Vincennes and Purdue Universities, earning degrees in Agriculture, Horticultural Science, and Plant Pathology. Scott has worked in various capacities in the produce industry, including self-employment as the operator of a farm supply store, R&D Director for a large vegetable farm, and assistant plant breeder for Abbott & Cobb, Inc. Upon coming to Purdue, Scott initially worked as an Extension ANR Educator before becoming a Food Safety Educator in 2015. Based in Southwestern Indiana, Scott conducts statewide produce food safety programming and research, as part of the Safe Produce Indiana team, from the Purdue Extension Food Safety Training Hub near Vincennes, IN.
