Author Bio
Cora grew up in South Central Indiana raising crossbred hair sheep and showing in 4-H. She then attended Purdue University, receiving a BS in Animal Sciences and International Agronomy, and pursued a MS in International Agricultural Extension Education from Ohio State University. She served as a US Borlaug Fellow, conducting research in Managua, Nicaragua. In 2019, she started in Bartholomew County as the ANR and CD extension educator. In September of 2025, she started as the part time Small Ruminant State Extension Specialist in addition to her role as county educator. She loves working with small ruminant producers of all levels of experience, from those just starting out to those with decades of knowledge.
Presentation: Into the Fold, Getting Started with Small Ruminants: Ever-growing in popularity, sheep and goats make an ideal starter livestock due to their smaller size. During this presentation, we will discuss the basic facilities you will need to own and manage sheep or goats. We will cover some basic decision making tools for deciding whether to own sheep or goats (or both!) and which breed fits your farm. We will also cover some health and husbandry basics that will be handy to know when you are just starting out.
